California Department of Insurance investigators arrested a Santa Paula, Calif., restaurant worker after he was videotaped working at another restaurant while on temporary disability, the state Insurance Department announced Tuesday.
Armando Jaramillo Landa, 41, was charged Monday with two counts of workers' compensation insurance fraud and booked into Ventura County Jail, Intercare Holdings said in an announcement.
According to Intercare, Landa filed a claim alleging an injury to his right shoulder on April 4, 2007, while working for the Chicago for Ribs restaurant in Ventura. While receiving temporary total disability benefits, he was videotaped working at Teppan Steak House in Oxnard.
The Insurance Department said Landa collected $30,000 in TTD benefits from May 2007 through August 2008.
Landa had denied working or earning income during a deposition and in interviews with a qualified medical evaluator, Intercare said. The Insurance Department said Landa used a phony name, Armando De Anda, and a false Social Security number while working at Teppan Steak House.
The Ventura County District Attorney's Office is prosecuting the case.
