Intercare provides claims administration services on behalf of the County of Los Angeles for the Los Angeles County Fire Department ("Fire Department") from our office in Orange, CA. Intercare has worked with the Fire department and Firefighters Local 1014 ("Local 1014") to establish a process to more quickly resolve disputes which arise from time to time with respect to the medical treatment of injured firefighters. On January 1, 2013, the Fire Department and Local 1014 entered into an Alternative Dispute Resolution Agreement per California Labor Code Section 3201.7(1)(3)(c).
This agreement will expedite the resolution of medical treatment disputes by providing the injured firefighter a list of mutually agreed upon Independent Medical Examiners. The list was established by the Labor-Management committee. ADR will permit medical treatment disputes to be raised by either party within specific time frames to permit scheduling and completion of the medical examinations. The agreement presents an exciting opportunity for both parties to move medical disputes to a swift resolution. The process will permit all parties concerned to evaluate and discuss these disputes in a more timely fashion and based upon the same medical review and analysis. Intercare is excited about the impact the Alternative Dispute Resolution will have on the claims process and will closely track the results as 2013 progresses.
